Cooling the Tube

London Underground have a long term aspiration to reduce temperatures within the deep level tunnels where the use of air conditioned trains is not possible.  The project to carry out these improvements is known as Cooling the Tube. Costain, with Halcrow and OtB Engineering as consultants, were awarded a contract to carry out improvements to the ventilation shafts at the southern end of the Victoria Line. Through our association with OtB Engineering Rails and Tunnels Limited were asked to provide the Project Director for the works, general project management advice and guidance in the development of technical documentation to assure the client of the adequacy of the design to enable the project to proceed through the client’s project gates system.
