Crossrail Enabling Works (New reversing facility for the District Line at West Ham)

Crossrail Enabling Works

Our Technical Director has had a long association with the Crossrail project and in particular the enabling works required for the new Whitechapel station, which simplify the District Line track and platforms to facilitate the construction of the new station. The works include additional track works at West Ham further to the east along the District Line to allow trains that would no longer be able to reverse at Whitechapel to do so there.
Through our association with McKenzie Martyn Partnership we were invited to provide engineering support to Balfour Beatty Rail Limited for the Crossrail Enabling Works at both West Ham and Whitechapel.

Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels

Rails and Tunnels Limited assisted Dragados Sisk Joint Venture in the preparation of its successful tender for the Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels, providing advice on logistics and infrastructure and asset protection.

Following its successful bid Dragados Sisk asked Rails and Tunnels Limited to provide the management of the project’s interfaces with railways, utilities and third parties. In addition we were also asked to continue to provide advice and guidance in the field of logistics.

The provision of infrastructure and asset protection on the Docklands Light Railway is part of this service to manage third party interfaces Crossrail’s Eastern Running Tunnels contract. The many DLR assets include Limehouse Viaduct which is a 180 year old listed structure and Canning Town Viaduct which is only a few years old. As DLR is an automatic railway it is important that all its assets affected by Crossrail’s tunnelling works are adequately monitored before, during and after tunnelling operations and that an effective emergency preparedness plan is in place. Rails and Tunnels Limited are also managing infrastructure and asset protection in a similar way on London Underground, Network Rail, the public utilities and many hundreds of property owners impacted by the tunnelling works.
